This month's edition of #classicalbumtweets will be coming up soon. Tonight is Fugees' The Score. I simply press play and tweet about it.

My #classicalbumtweets for July will be starting shortly. Got my copy of The Score ready. pic.twitter.com/f6M1IjqmYR

Just a heads up, I won't be dealing with the bonus tracks from The Score. The vision of an album ends when they start. Still enjoyable tho.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Late Registration officially ends with "Gone," not "Late." You can hear it...
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Pushing play...now! #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
First time I heard "Red Intro," I immediately felt like I was going to be taken on a journey. So dramatic and felt like a sermon. Uncommon.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
How is anyone but Lauryn Hill the greatest female MC of all-time? "How Many Mics" is the main evidence. Yeesh. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I came to The Score pretty late. All the main singles had been released by then. "How Many Mics" validated me in my purchase.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Ah! Skits on hip hop albums. Pretty much a dead art form. Could easily be essential to an album as it is poisonous. Served Score well though
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I remember listening to "Ready Or Not" on headphones for the first time and being amazed at that sampling travel from left to right.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
It was probably the first time I experienced that kind of studio trickery in hip hop. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"Zealots" is really the best of all worlds. Lauryn crooning and probably one of her best verses ever. Vibe selected it as one of the top 20.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
First 3 tracks hit us with something rugged, something smooth and something so eclectic and bizarre you had to love it. Cards shown early.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"The Beast" is probably one of my least favorites. Was just never able to get over the chorus as a kid. Where was the imagination???
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"The Beast" is still solid if only for the social commentary. Production needed to have that darkness for theme. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"Listen to me. You think...I open a restaurant...in the middle of the hood...and don't know what's going." #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I'm pretty sure "Fu-Gee-La" was the first song I heard by them. Remember watching the video one night and going, "They're from the poster!"
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Explanation: my neighbor had a poster of the album cover in his bedroom. None of us had even heard their music, but it was striking.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
From the poster, I knew they would be hardcore, but never expected the finesse. "Fu-Gee-La" confirmed they were cool. pic.twitter.com/K7tc5Rdgsa
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I'm positive that album cover alone probably helped sell a few hundred copies. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Low key, John Forte was kind of nice. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"Family Business" is another example of the East Coast's mid-90s fascination with Mafia sounds. So prevalent back then.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Nearly lost it the first time I heard "Killing Me Softly." Laid in the back seat on the way home, song came on radio, couldn't stop smiling.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
It was so sparse and Lauryn's vocals just gliding. The bass didn't even drop heavily on chorus, it bloomed. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
And now on to Side 2. I grew up on a cassette copy. Honestly, that's why I'm not touching the bonus tracks. pic.twitter.com/lWqrYcp5HZ
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
There's really not a duff beat on this thing. Just an amazing ear for samples and arrangements. Gutter with pop structure.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I'm so afraid to listen to Blunted On Reality. I don't want to accept a world where The Fugees make mediocre music. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Can you call yourself a hip hop classic without having at least one narrative song? "The Mask" fits that role nicely. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"Cowboys" is another example of it being gutter with a poor format. The beat itself isn't super grimey due to lighter elements around it.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
But there's so much hunger from everyone on that song. It added just the tiniest bit of sunshine to the basement to keep its cred.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Confession: I didn't hear Bob Marley's version of "No Woman, No Cry" until maybe six years after I bought The Score. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
I wanna go back to that place where I thought it was an original Fugees song. It felt so fresh & unique. All I hear now is Bob's superiority
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
"Manifest" always made me feel off-balance, even though I loved it. A lot to do with guitar crescendos at end of verses. #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
That kind of building intensity was usually reserved for other genres. Wyclef amped it up the most. Pras kept it cool as usual.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
See, why would you want to include the bonus tracks if you had been listening intently the entire time? #classicalbumtweets
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
That piano motif begins and ends the album so effectively. Not saying it was epic, but it provided closure, like a cinematic experience.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
So grateful to have a CD copy of The Score because this was one of the worst days when this happened. pic.twitter.com/HHMPSJMtcq
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
So that brings an end to another #classicalbumtweets. I do this every 2nd Wednesday of the month.
— Ivan Mitchell (@hecticivan) July 10, 2014
Next month in Aug., you'll need to do a little dance and drink a little water b/c it'll be Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
